My Monday Musings: Make hay while the sun shines

Reflecting on the just concluded #AFSForum2024 gave me a deeper appreciation on the value of striking while the iron is hot.

This year, I had a full circle moment of participating as a delegate after three years of being on the convener’s side. The buzz of bumping shoulders along the corridors, the chatter of the agripreneurs in the exhibition booths and the roar of the claps from the conference rooms was all too familiar but uniquely different when you’re a delegate.

Then there’s the most important, life altering , career defining aspect, the rudder that turns the whole ship – closed door discussions. The bilateral meetings that will secure your next big milestone. The separate coffee dates on the sidelines and the intimate dinners curated just for you, because of you. Therein lies the sweet spot.

I had the honour of having a tête-à-tête with Ambassador Hans Hoogeveen of the Kingdom of the Netherlands

Conferences “could” be seen as a waste of time for some; but what’s in it for you? What’s YOUR agenda from the whole?

Be strategic.

Make hay while the sun shines.
